Argentine President Javier Milei dismissed the Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA) of Argentina and created new agencies in its place. The press service of the administration of the head of state reported this.

"President Javier Milei ordered the dissolution of the FRA based on the results of an internal audit, which began on December 12, 2023. In its place, the national intelligence system will be managed by the Secretariat of State,” the text reads.

According to Argentine authorities, the intelligence agency has been primarily used over the past years not for the protection of the country's population but for internal surveillance and “political and ideological persecution.”

The new agency was given the name State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE), which had already been used to refer to the intelligence service in Argentina until 2015. Four new agencies will be under the SIDE's management - the Argentine Intelligence Service, which will be tasked with “preventing threats to the country,” the National Security Agency, created to prevent “serious federal crimes” and threats from criminal and terrorist organizations, the Federal Cybersecurity Agency, and the Posdaría de la Interior, which will be in charge of auditing the other agencies as mentioned earlier.
