YEREVAN. – It became apparent on Monday that three more persons are included in the criminal case launched against Margar Ohanyan, Armenia’s former Road Police Chief, Haykakan Zhamanak daily writes. 

“The Special Investigation Service ended the investigation into the criminal affair with respect to Ohanyan. Investigator T. Tamamyan informed yesterday [Monday] that the case will be sent to the court in the coming days. And Ohanyan’s attorney M. Vasakyan informed yesterday that Ohanyan had recently transferred 57 million drams [US$ 149,015] to the state budget. In the attorney’s words, this does not mean that Ohanyan pleads guilty. ‘This is just a matter of honor. The incident occurred in the agency he headed,’ Vasakyan said. And in response to the question as to how Margar Ohanyan had had that much amount, the attorney said the money was collected by Ohanyan’s relatives and friends,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.      

To note, Margar Ohanyan is charged with abuse of official position and large-scale embezzlement of property, and he is under custody, since August 30. If found guilty, he could face up to 12 years in prison.
