YEREVAN. - Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun daily conducted an interview with Vladimir Karapetyan, foreign relations official of the opposition Armenian National Congress.

How do you assess the joint statement, adopted in Vilnius, by FMs of [OSCE Minsk Group] Co-Chair countries and FMs of Armenia and Azerbaijan?

You can notice that a part of this statement was made by the heads of all five delegations, whereas the other part, either solely by the mediators, or the FMs of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The main objective for making a statement was the political reflection on the [Karabakh] conflict, under the conditions when there is no real progress. The statement does not contain any obligation by the parties; there is no progress in it. The only “progress” is the unacceptability of maintaining status quo, about which the mediators recall in all the latest statements. All parties are tasked with fixing the current situation and not allowing the situation to exacerbate. This concern will guide all parties engaged in the process, even in the coming months.
