Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, who was accused in Turkey of plotting a coup attempt in the country in 2016, has died, Hurriyet daily reports.

"FETO leader Fethullah Gulen, who lived in the American state of Pennsylvania, has died," the aforesaid newspaper wrote.

Turkish authorities accuse Gulen's organization, which they call FETO (Fethullah Terrorist Organization), of involvement in the July 2016 coup attempt in Turkey.

After this uprising in Turkey, more than 80,000 people were arrested, and around 150,000 civil servants—including military personnel—were either dismissed or fired in the country.

Gulen himself, who lived in the US, had condemned this coup attempt and rejected the accusations against him.
