Europe is actively considering plans for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, fearing that US President-elect Donald Trump may set unfavorable conditions to Kyiv for the settlement of the conflict. In this regard, the question of deploying Western troops after the ceasefire to guarantee Ukraine's security is being raised more and more, reports Rzeczpospolita daily of Poland.

Poland and France are discussing the proposal from Paris to deploy a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine after hostilities end, to prevent Russia from violating the ceasefire and the border delimitation line that may be established in the future.

Elie Tenenbaum, Director of the Security Studies Center of the French Institute of International Relations, who is working on a project for such a mission, told the aforesaid newspaper that this peacekeeping contingent could consist of five brigades (about 40,000 soldiers), and Poland could take command of one of them.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will discuss this matter at their meeting Thursday, Rzeczpospolita added.
