The representatives of Armenia and Turkey met on the Armenian-Turkish border and discussed the issue of restarting the Akhurik-Akyaka railway crossing. Ruben Rubinyan, deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament and Armenia’s special representative for the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, said this on the air of the Public Television of Armenia.

"It's the railroad crossing of the railways of Armenia and Turkey; it is better known as ‘Kars-Gyumri.’ That meeting took place, relevant departments from both sides participated; i.e. the departments that may concern the capacity of re-operating the railway. It was a rather large delegation; the meeting took place in a very constructive atmosphere," Rubinyan said, and added that the representatives of the departments that will be in charge of the repair of the historical bridge of Ani also had attended this meeting.

Rubinyan noted that there is no political arrangement between Armenia and Turkey that the aforesaid railway shall be restarted.

"There is no arrangement, but the opposite of the process can also happen that both sides, realizing and comprehending that their ultimate goal is the complete [re]opening of the border of the two countries, and there is such a comprehension, we are preparing for it in such contacts also, including in technical terms," he said.
