A German delegation led by German Middle East Commissioner Tobias Tunkel held talks with Ahmed al-Sharaa, the leader of the pro-Turkish Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group that came to power in Syria, Zaid al-Attar, the group's foreign affairs spokesman, and the education minister of the transitional government, Reuters quoted the German Foreign Ministry as saying.

At Tuesday's meeting, the two sides discussed Syria's political transition and human rights, the foreign ministry said in a statement that the delegation talked to representatives of civil society and religious organizations and toured the German embassy building in Damascus.

“The discussion focused on the political transition and our expectations regarding the protection of minorities and women's rights so that we can see a peaceful development in Syria,” the statement said.
