YEREVAN. – The Armenian political party leaders will not imitate the scenario of the Russian State Duma elections, Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan stated during a press conference on Thursday. 

In his words, the social networks have considerably increased public reaction to the Duma election results. “Armenia’s population is not much, and it lives compactly. [Capital] Yerevan and [its] suburbs are virtually two-thirds of the [country’s total] population. Therefore information reaches easily,” Iskandaryan noted. And as per the political analyst, the social networks have become serious transmitters of discontent.   

According to Alexander Iskandaryan, the public rally at Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square did not contain much political charge. “The sole demand was: don’t behave in such way with us any longer! It was nowhere near the opposition’s public rallies in Yerevan,” Iskandaryan argued. 

In his view, the domestic politics of Armenia and Russia practically cannot be compared. “This can be seen in the media, too. There is more pluralism in Armenian [media]. And practically there aren’t many diametrically conflicting views in print media. This is the same against the television channels, too. [But] Russia’s television channels are in a more severe condition,” Alexander Iskandaryan maintained.
