US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued an executive order suspending new foreign aid commitments pending review. The decision is in line with President Trump's executive order, which emphasizes the need for stricter oversight of aid programs.

The executive order states that there is a lack of centralized information across the U.S. government to determine the effectiveness and consistency of current foreign aid programs with foreign policy. Rubio emphasizes the need for a data repository to evaluate programs.

The deadline for completing a comprehensive review of foreign aid is set at 85 days. At the conclusion of the review, a report must be prepared for the secretary of state, who will recommend further action to the president.

As part of the order, it also states that existing grants must be suspended until the review is complete. The exceptions will be aid to Israel and Egypt, emergency food aid and U.S. personnel costs.

According to CBS News, the Biden administration redirected some military aid to Egypt to Lebanon to support its armed forces following a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
