Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was given an electronic tag Friday after he lost an appeal against his conviction on corruption and abuse of influence charges, AFP reported.

He will have to stay in his Paris home from 8pm to 8am, but has been given special permission to stay out until 9:30pm for three days a week when he will attend a separate trial on charges, which he denies, of receiving millions of dollars in illegal campaign funds from deposed and brutally murdered Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

If he fails to comply with the legal hours of house arrest, authorities will be alerted by an alarm.
