Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said former U.S. President Donald Trump fully supports a policy linking the annexation of Gaza to damage to Israeli hostages, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Smotrich argued that Israel should cut off electricity, water, and humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning Hamas that “every hostage that is harmed” will result in Israel exercising sovereignty over “5% of Gaza.”

Smotrich offered a clear ultimatum to Hamas: “As soon as the war resumes, all released terrorists must be re-arrested. This will take very little time, and a very simple message must be conveyed: for every hostage that is harmed, we will establish sovereignty over 5% of Gaza on the same day. One more hostage is another 5%, and we will have the full support of President Trump in this matter.”

Hamas announced Monday that it would halt the release of Israeli hostages until further notice, accusing Israel of violating the Gaza ceasefire agreement, raising the risk of renewed conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump, for his part, said Monday that Hamas must release all hostages held in Gaza by noon Saturday or he would propose canceling the truce and “letting hell break loose.”
