Hraparak daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: Are the death threats against you from the Azerbaijani ambassador to Belgium, Vaqif Sadiqov, continuing? Yesterday we asked the RA ambassador to Belgium, Tigran Balayan. “No, they have not been repeated since that incident.”
Let us recall that back in November last year, Balayan had stated that he had received death threats from the Azerbaijani ambassador. According to international press reports, the incident occurred during a reception at the Tangla Hotel in Brussels, which was organized by the embassy of Turkey in honor of the country’s national holiday.
We tried to ask Balayan other questions about the reasons for the threats directed at him, but he kept repeating monotone, directing to the press service of the [Armenian] MFA [i.e. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs]. Let us note that the RA ambassadors have never been so voiceless and dependent on the [Armenian] authorities as now.
Maintaining the position of ambassador has become such an overarching goal that they are afraid to even answer questions about themselves (…).
