The US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), supervised by Ilon Musk, should continue to reduce state budget expenditures, regardless of possible political consequences. This was stated by US President Donald Trump, the words of which are quoted by NBC News.
“I have no idea how the public will perceive this idea (of continuing to reduce government spending), but it must be implemented,” he said at a meeting with representatives of the US administration.
Administration officials expressed support for Musk and DOGE attending the meeting, the TV station noted. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency head Lee Zeldin pointed to the “incredible cooperation” with DOGE, while Attorney General Pam Bondi praised Ilon's “incredible team.” U.S. Interior Secretary Douglas Bergam pointed out that the agency overseen by Musk had uncovered numerous contracting violations.
After his inauguration on January 20, US President Donald Trump appointed Musk to oversee the new Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE immediately began a large-scale audit of budget spending. In total, Musk expects to cut government spending by $2 trillion.
