YEREVAN. - The negotiation process on settling the Karabakh conflict has actually stopped after the presidents’ meeting in Kazan. That is a result of Russian president Dmitry Medvedev’s attempt of accelerating the negotiation process, the head of the Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation Stepan Grigoryan told the reporter of Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to the political scientist, any attempt to accelerate the negotiation process artificially will not contribute to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Due to Medvedev’s intervention, the process got suspended.

“Due to several reasons neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan are ready to sign any large document. Due to our major demands Azerbaijan is not ready, due to Azerbaijan’s major demands Armenia is not ready. However there has been a good negotiation process. A positive fact is that a document entitled Madrid Principles has been developed,” Grigoryan said.

According to him, there is even a positive factor in the current pause: everybody understands that the format for settling the Karabakh conflict is OSCE MG.

“In 2012 the renewal of the negotiation process in the framework of OSCE MG was possible, however it must also be taken into account that Armenia is in a pre-election phase and there is no need to expect great moves as Armenia will be busy with domestic political processes,” Grigoryan concluded.
