All NATO member states will agree to increase their defense spending to 5% of their GDP over the next ten years, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with Fox News.

“We are headed for a [NATO] summit in six weeks in which virtually every member of NATO will be at or above 2 percent [of its GDP]. But more importantly, many of them will be over 4 percent [of their GDP], and all will have agreed on a goal of reaching 5 percent [of their GDP] over the next decade,” the US Secretary of State noted.

But German defense minister Boris Pistorius on Thursday spoke out against setting defense spending at 5% of GDP. In his opinion, in the end, one can talk about 3% or more.
