Argentine President Javier Milei's new immigration reform is apparently aimed at criminals, poor migrants, and pregnant Russian women. A whole industry of "birth tourism" has been built around the pregnant Russian women in Russia.

Milei has tightened the requirements for obtaining Argentine citizenship since Thursday and will also facilitate the deportation of foreigners. Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni  said that over the past 20 years, 1.7 million people have entered the country illegally, the current rules "encourage chaos and abuse," and state-run hospitals have spent $100 million on services for foreigners in one year.

The reform will include several points that could put an end to "birth tourism" in Argentina. The country’s authorities will deport those who do not declare the true nature of their trips, immigrants will pay for local medical services and insurance, and only those who have lived in Argentina for two consecutive years or made “significant investments” will be granted permanent residency and citizenship in the country. To obtain permanent residency, you will need proof of your means of support and no criminal record.

Also, giving birth in Argentina will no longer automatically entitle you to a residence permit in the country. It will no longer be possible to apply for Argentine citizenship based on the birth of a child. Also, respective documents will be considered by the migration service, and not by the courts.
