PARIS. – Socialist Senator Philippe Kaltenbach will express his position at the French Senate on Monday for the benefit of the bill, criminalizing denial of genocides, Nouvelles d`Arménie reports.

“The Socialist Party supports the bill. Socialist MPs have been making efforts to protect the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims from the attack of denial since 2001. Inadmissibility, claimed by the Committee on Law cannot refer to the new bill, to vote for on Monday. Hence the legal mechanism differs from the text, rejected on May, last year,” the MP said.

The French Senate will vote for the bill, brought forward by the French President Nikolas Sarkozy’s wish and which caused a serious crisis between Paris and Ankara, Le Point reports quoting France-Presse Agency.

Turkey’s efforts to persuade France to reject the bill, supposing a year of imprisonment and/or €45000 fine, failed, Le Point reports. Besides, the Turkish pressure was materialized on Saturday in the streets of Paris, when over 15,000 Europeans of Turkish origin held demonstrations demanding rejection of the bill, Le Parisien reports.

Turk were allowed to hold a demonstration in Medici Street in front of the Odeon theatre and around the Luxemburg Park at the same time when the Armenians’ protest action was held  organized by the Coordinated Council of the Armenian Organizations in France. The end of the street will be blocked by police to prevent any contact or provocation, Nouvelles d`Arménie reports.
