ANKARA. – At the same time when the French Senate was discussing the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide, Turkey’s ruling party, with the participation of PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was examining the country’s sanctions to be imposed against France, if the bill passed.    

And according to Milliyet daily of Turkey, the party discussed these options:

Using all avenues of international law to obstruct the bill.

The sanctions must be ongoing, and not temporary. 

Turkey’s Ambassador to France, who had returned to Turkey with the first decision, this time will be called back for a longer period.

Reducing diplomatic relations with France to an absolute minimum.

French companies will not be allowed to compete in tenders.

Calling back Turkey’s Military Attaché in France, and declaring null and void the accreditation of France’s Attaché in Turkey.  

Closing Turkish air space for French military planes. 

Closing Turkish ports for French warships.

To note, with a vote of 127 in favor and 86 against, France’s Senate passed Monday the bill that criminalizes the denial of the genocides which this country has formally recognized. And these are the Armenian Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust. This bill sets a one-year prison sentence plus a 45-thousand-Euro fine for anyone who denies these genocides. According to the regulations, the French President will ratify it within fifteen days. And Turkey had announced earlier that if the bill were to pass, it will impose a number of sanctions against France.
