Gevorg Ghukasyan, a member of the HKK faction in the Gyumri City Council and the grandnephew of Mayor Vardán Ghukasyan’s brother, has been placed in pre-trial detention by court decision in connection with the mass riots in Gyumri.

According to the Investigative Committee, a petition was submitted to the court to apply detention as a preventive measure for 19 individuals involved in the events.

On October 20, law enforcement entered the Gyumri City Hall and arrested several individuals, including Mayor Vardán Ghukasyan on bribery charges. A large number of citizens had gathered near the City Hall building, leading to scuffles between them and law enforcement, after which 33 people were detained.
