Ruben Mkhitaryan, a member of the “Our Way” popular movement and son of the late legendary weightlifting coach Ashot Mkhitaryan, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months. The decision was made by the First Instance General Jurisdiction Court of Shirak Province, according to the movement.
On October 20, authorities detained 37 citizens near the Gyumri City Hall. A court petition was filed requesting pre-trial detention for 19 of them.
The Investigative Committee stated that preliminary evidence indicates that on October 20, 2025, a group of individuals gathered near and inside the Gyumri City Hall to obstruct investigative actions conducted by prosecutors of the Anti-Corruption Committee. The group allegedly interfered with the investigation and public safety, committing acts of mass disorder.
Specifically, the individuals reportedly called to block the entrances of City Hall to prevent the transfer of detainees, damaged police vehicle tires, vandalized City Hall property, and used violence against law enforcement officers, throwing Molotov cocktails and bottles, while verbally insulting them.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against 19 individuals under Article 327.1 (participation in mass riots) and Article 486.2.1 (interference with justice or investigation by a group of individuals acting in concert). Additionally, 10 individuals face charges under Article 486.2.1 and 46-327.1 (inciting participation in mass riots).
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
