At its special session held on Friday, the National Assembly of Armenia ratified the agreement between Armenia and the European Union (EU) on defining the scope of Armenia’s participation in the EU’s crisis management operations

Fifty-five MPs voted in favor of this ratification, and 24 others abstained.

According to the Armenian government, this agreement provides an opportunity for Armenia to make the best use of the EU’s track record and knowledge in crisis management.

The government is convinced that Armenia’s participation in respective EU missions will enable the establishment and/or deepening of interoperability between the relevant departments of the two parties, and this will facilitate further cooperation within various initiatives.

Taking into account that in recent times the partnership agenda between Armenia and the EU has expanded to include cooperation in the security and defense sectors also, this agreement will create an opportunity for deepening and further expansion of cooperation in those sectors as well.

“The signing of the agreement is viewed as a practical step aimed at deepening Armenia–EU cooperation and introducing European standards in line with Armenia’s foreign policy,” the document stated.
