The Armenian daily Hraparak writes as follows, in particular: [PM] Nikol Pashinyan has changed the tactics in the fight against the Catholicos [of All Armenians, Karekin II] and the [Armenian Apostolic] church, moved the Crusade into the intra-church domain—he is dismantling the church from within.

We learned from the authorities’ sources that the scenario is as follows: to again bring some persons from among the episcopate to their side, and then to force the resignation of the Catholicos. Today, only 10 high-ranking clergymen, several priests have joined. The authorities’ sources assure that in the coming days we will hear 2–3 new names.

However, at least about 25 high-ranking clergymen’s support is required. By the way, even in that case they cannot dream of dethroning the Catholicos, because according to the [Armenian Apostolic] church regulations, that matter is discussed by the Assembly of Bishops, and the authority to convene the assembly belongs to the Catholicos.

And if the Catholicos decides to resist and not step down, or if he is confident that the majority of the assembly is against him, he will not even convene the assembly.
