Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid during his working visit to Turkmenistan, the Armenian president’s office informs.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of matters related to the Armenia-Iraq bilateral relations agenda.

The presidents emphasized the importance of continuous efforts aimed at the dynamic development of Armenian-Iraqi relations, expanding political dialogue based on mutual trust, and deepening practical cooperation.

The interlocutors exchanged views also on initiatives aimed at regional security, establishing peace, and strengthening stability. In this regard, President Khachaturyan presented the vision of the Crossroads of Peace initiative of Armenia, and highlighted its broad potential as a pillar of regional communication, connectivity, and inclusive economic development. In this context, the parties noted that regional stability and connectivity are crucial for expanding transport and economic opportunities. The importance of implementing the TRIP project and fully activating all communication channels was emphasized.

The meeting paid special attention also to the potential for cooperation between Armenia and Iraq in the energy sector, whose effective implementation could become a significant achievement for both countries.

The parties highlighted the expansion of bilateral economic cooperation, and emphasized the deepening of collaboration in trade, investment, and other mutually interesting domains, as well as the continuous promotion of initiatives aimed at strengthening business ties.

Organizational and substantive matters related to 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Armenia in 2026, were also discussed. Both parties emphasized the importance of hosting such high-level international events as a key platform for addressing global environmental challenges and deepening international cooperation.

Also, the Armenian and Iraqi presidents positively assessed the dynamics of high-level reciprocal visits and the high level of political dialogue developed in recent years, and stressed the importance of the continued development of these trends.
