Iravunk daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: The authorities have begun an active signature campaign in the provinces demanding the resignation of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II.
According to whispers circulating behind the scenes of the authorities, the author of the idea was Karen Sarukhanyan, an MP elected from Shirak [Province], who voiced it at a [ruling] party meeting. CC [i.e. the ruling Civil Contract Party and its parliamentary faction] members accepted Sarukhanyan's proposal with great enthusiasm; moreover, it is said that [PM] Nikol Pashinyan even voiced words of praise addressed to him.
And so they immediately got down to work: itinerant “faithful” working as a “support group” at Pashinyan Nikol’s “liturgies” are going around villages’ and cities’ stops with papers, trying to extract signatures from the public—starting from Shirak Province itself.
