I see no need to take part in the meeting to be held at the Mother See of Etchmiadzin to demand the resignation of Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press briefing Thursday.

Also, Pashinyan assured that he is not directing the actions of the ten bishops and archbishops, but added that he welcomes and supports them. He noted that the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral belongs to them, and they belong to the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral. “Therefore, the invitation voiced by them to gather at the Mother See [of Holy Etchmiadzin] is absolutely legitimate. What connects me with the ten bishops? Only exclusively the agenda, and on other issues we have a consensus that this agenda cannot be implemented without the removal of Ktrich Nersisyan [i.e. the birth name of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II) from the Mother See,” Pashinyan added.

As reported earlier, the aforesaid ten bishops and archbishops, who support Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in his confrontation with the Armenian Apostolic Church, on Wednesday issued a statement calling on people to join them at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on Thursday at 5pm to demand the resignation of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II.
