At the request of Congress, the Pentagon has published a report on the capabilities of the Chinese military and its potential threat to the United States, Bloomberg reports.

This report is the first version released under the second administration of US President Donald Trump.

The document describes how the Chinese military is becoming more sophisticated and stable. It is noted that China is wary of large-scale agreements with the US, and is also learning from Russia's failures in Ukraine, increasing its pressure on Taiwan.

The report emphasizes that China and Russia continue to deepen their strategic partnership, which is almost certainly due to their shared interest of countering the US. However, cooperation between Beijing and Moscow is hampered by mutual distrust between the two parties.

According to the latest Pentagon report on the capabilities of the Chinese military, China’s armed forces are in the process of a historic buildup of military power, which makes the US territory even more vulnerable, adds Bloomberg.

Experts warn that China is ahead of the US in the development of hypersonic weapons. In turn, the Golden Dome missile defense system planned by Trump is designed to protect the US from these and other innovative threats, as well as from more traditional ballistic missiles.

The aforesaid report’s publicizing followed the release of the US National Security Strategy, which pays less attention to the threat posed by China than to problems in the Western Hemisphere and domestic issues.
