Thousands of people had gathered at Cologne Cathedral in Germany on Christmas Eve to celebrate the Christmas mass and sing holiday hymns. But the sudden appearance of a masked man caused a stir there, BILD reports.

The Christmas mass, which began at 4:30pm local time as a quiet service, at one point turned into the strangest scene of the evening.

As Cologne police confirmed to BILD during the investigation, a man completely masked in a black cloak and a striking golden mask ran out of the church hall.

Upon reaching the entrance, the mysterious masked man with floppy ears began dancing. Church security personnel immediately responded and removed the dancer from the cathedral. He showed no resistance. A video circulating on Instagram shows the masked man leaving.

Police did not need to intervene, no one was injured, and the Christmas mass continued as if nothing had happened, except for the exclamation of “Did you just see that?” from those in attendance.
