North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has stressed the need to increase the ammunition and missile production plans for 2026, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports.

Kim visited North Korea's defense industry facilities, and got familiarized with the production of missiles and projectiles in the fourth quarter of 2025.

He noted that leading enterprises have successfully implemented the 2025 production plan for the last year of the five-year plan, contributing to strengthening the country's defense capability.

"Comrade Kim Jong Un noted the need to increase the 2026 production plan based on development prospects and future demand for missile and artillery units of the relevant state armed forces," KCNA noted.

This requires “strengthening the technical base of related production facilities and expanding the overall production capacity.”

The North Korean leader noted that new enterprises should be created in the military-industrial complex to meet future demand for ammunition. A decision on them will be made at the upcoming party congress. The North Korean authorities should also continue to modernize the military-industrial complex.

“Comrade Kim Jong Un said that the production of missiles and projectiles is extremely important in strengthening deterrence,” KCNA reported.

New programs for the production and modernization of the industry will be adopted at the 9th party congress. “Today, Comrade Kim Jong Un signed projects for the modernization of leading military-industrial enterprises, which will be submitted for consideration at the 9th party congress,” KCNA added.
