Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro could have been in Turkey today, but he is in prison in New York, US Senator Lindsey Graham said, BBC reports.

According to him, it would have been better for the Venezuelan president to accept that offer, and he has nobody to blame but himself.

“He chose to defy [US President Donald] Trump and the US military and his ass is in jail,” Senator Graham said.

Earlier, The New York Times reported that on December 23, the US authorities had offered Maduro to leave office and go to Turkey, but he did not agree.
