STEPANAKERT. – The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Ministry of Defense (NKR MOD) announced that it is committed to its tactics, and that it never opens fire at civilian settlements.

But Azerbaijan, aside from bombarding NKR Martakert town and surrounding villages, on Monday shelled NKR Martuni town, informed the press service of the NKR Defense Army.

As for the Azerbaijani MOD spokesperson’s recent statement with respect to the possibility of launching strikes at NKR capital city of Stepanakert, the NKR MOD press service reflected on this in its statement on Monday, and in response to the Azerbaijani defense minister’s similar statement.

In addition, The First Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan, had informed Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk,  Personal Representative to Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Chairperson-in-Office, about the Azerbaijan MOD statement on launching a strike at Stepanakert.

The situation at the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone dramatically escalated in the early morning hours on April 2. From regular shootings and frequent sabotage-reconnaissance attempts, Azerbaijan switched to large-scale attacks all along the Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, using a variety of weaponry as well as artillery, armored vehicles, and air force. Both sides have suffered casualties.
