The leaders of the two Koreas agreed to start works on connecting roads and railways within the year, The Korea Herald reported.

“The South and the North agreed to explore practical measures aimed at increasing exchange and cooperation and seeking balanced development,” read a joint statement signed by South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during their summit.

“The two agreed to hold a groundbreaking ceremony this year for connecting railways and roads running along their eastern and western coasts,” it stated.

The two sides will also discuss ways to create a special economic zone on the western coast and a special tourism zone on the eastern coast.
