YEREVAN. – In combination with the evidence obtained along the lines of the criminal case which the Investigative Committee of Armenia is investigating, a man has been charged with the murder of his 88-year-old mother.

As a result of the measures taken within the framework of the criminal case that was launched on one count of murder, several circumstances behind this murder have been ascertained, and the murder suspect is the son of the victim, the committee informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

It has been found out that on March 15 at around 11:30am, a Tavush Province resident—who was born in 1957—argued with his mother at home, and over the absence of vodka in a bottle. Subsequently, the man hit his 88-year-old mother in the head with an axe. As a result, the elderly woman died on the same day, at Ijevan town hospital.

Criminal charges have been brought against the 62-year-old man.

The court granted the investigator’s petition for remanding him in custody.

Several forensic examinations have been ordered.

The preliminary investigation is still in progress.
