YEREVAN. – Armenia’s humanitarian mission in Syria is justified in moral, humanist and political sense, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in the National Assembly.

In response to a remark by Bright Armenia faction’s Arman Babajanyan, he said the decision was made given the national interests and Armenia’s historic mission. The surgeons have already conducted over 100 operations, he said.

“If an Armenian doctor saves a man whose grandfather helped our compatriot who had survived the Armenian Genocide in 1915 and gave him a glass of water and a piece of bread, I believe we return our historical debt to the people of Syria,” the PM said.

He added that the Armenian sappers are carrying out de-mining work in the territory of Syria where small kids are playing. Pashinyan emphasized that they are the descendants of those who once helped Armenian Genocide survivors.

At the same time head of the Armenian government admitted that the humanitarian mission faces certain risks, but at the same time increases world’s perception of Armenia as an independent state.

A group of 83 Armenian specialists departed for a humanitarian mission in Syria's Aleppo in February.

Armenian experts are carrying out humanitarian activities related to mine clearance, providing medical services in Aleppo, exclusively in the areas where there are no military operations.
