An imam has been arrested in the Turkish Province of Van on charges of sexually abusing a child, Sozcu daily reported.

The 36-year-old Muslim cleric who has worked as an imam for six years is accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl who had came to his mosque to buy a book.

This sexual abuse became known when the girl had told her mother about it.

The Imam, however, denies the allegations against him.

This incident has taken place after a major criminal case was filed against another Muslim cleric who was arrested earlier this month in Sakarya Province on charges of sexually assaulting a minor.
