A total of 124 intellectuals have called for supporting the "Armenia" bloc—led by second President Robert Kocharyan—in Sunday’s snap parliamentary election. The call reads as follows, in particular:
"Armenian statehood is facing a most serious challenge today. (…).
The June 20 election will determine the prospects for the existence of the Armenian people, as a nation having shared goals, and of the state of Armenia.
We, the undersigned intellectuals, are convinced that at this crucial moment the preferred [political] force fighting for the further course of the Republic of Armenia is the ‘ARMENIA’ bloc, where united national, state political forces and figures are able to stop—with maximum dedication—the disintegration of the country, strengthen the Armenian statehood, and restore our wounded dignity."
