Major General Teodor Incicas, Chief of the General Directorate for Armaments within Romanian Ministry of National Defense, announced that Bucharest pans to buy a battalion of Abrams tanks from Washington, reports RIA Novosti.

According to Incicas, the Romanian parliament, however, must first approve the purchase of tracked howitzers, tracked infantry fighting vehicles, short- and ultra-short-range air defense systems, as well as missiles for F-16 fighter jets.

"At the same time, our request for the purchase of a battalion of Abrams tanks is on the way to the preliminary approval of the parliament," Incicas added.

He explained that such tanks have the best qualities and features for performing tasks.
