Now, more than ever, US President Biden must urgently push the UN Security Council to create a mandate and peacekeeping mission to protect Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced by Congressman Chris Smith, who recently presided over two congressional hearings the dedicated to the plight of Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The people of Nagorno-Karabakh are in grave danger. They were forced to disarm and surrender their independence to a ruthless dictator whose government has repeatedly committed horrific atrocities against them over the years, expressed his desire to carry out ethnic cleansing, and even started genocide by starvation by blocking the Lachin corridor, Smith added.

Unfortunately, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, called the claims of the Biden administration that he "will not tolerate" the attack a bluff, the American lawmaker added.

Chris Smith called on President Biden to immediately send diplomats and expert observers to the Nagorno-Karabakh region to monitor the situation and immediately report any atrocities or abuses. Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh have every right to continue living in their ancient homeland and to do so in safety, he added.
