US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller responded today at a briefing to the question about the arrest of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan by Azerbaijan after crossing the Lachin corridor.
"We are aware of the arrest. We are closely monitoring the situation. I have no other comments today," he said.
Today the Azerbaijani media disseminated a video of former Minister of State of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ruben Vardanyan being taken captive.
Earlier, the State Border Service of Azerbaijan confirmed that Vardanyan was arrested while trying to leave Artsakh, and publicized a respective photo.
Ruben Vardanyan's wife, Veronika Zonabend, issued a statement announcing that this morning her husband was arrested and held captive by the Azerbaijani authorities at the border when he was trying to leave Artsakh together with thousands of other Armenians.
