One of the authors of Politico, Jamil Anderlini, in his article entitled “Charles Michel’s Nagorno-Karabakh fiasco” asks the question of why the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, decided to make the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict his main foreign policy topic.
“I spent the week marveling at our brilliant coverage of the depressing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh as Azerbaijan swooped in and snatched the breakaway ethnic Armenian enclave following decades of conflict. Our excellent energy correspondent Gabriel Gavin happens to live most of the time in Yerevan and is an expert on the region whose deep knowledge and contacts allowed POLITICO to lead on this sad story all week.
One big question: Why on earth did European Council President Charles Michel decide to make the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict his signature foreign policy issue and where was he as Azerbaijan rolled in and the Armenian population fled for their lives?” Anderlini writes.
