YEREVAN. – The Constitutional Court of Armenia is orally examining Saturday the 28 Armenian National Assembly (NA) MPs’ formal petition to declare unconstitutional the Election Code’s provisions which prohibit the publicizing of the list of voters who actually partake in the elections.

The plaintiffs’ representative at the court, human rights activist and attorney Vahe Grigoryan, noted that the aforesaid provisions make it impossible to carry out the Constitution’s imperative provision: “Power belongs to the people.”

In his turn, MP Davit Harutyunyan, who represents the NA at the Court, noted that making this list public curtails the freedom of those citizens who do not wish for their election participation to be publicized. He motioned the Court to reject the 28 MPs’ petition.

The Constitutional Court session is still in progress.
