YEREVAN. – The balloon blast which occurred in the Republic Square of Yerevan is a tragedy, Armenian First President, leader of opposition Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan announced on Sunday.

“I don’t want to express any opinion, what happened is a tragedy,” Levon Ter-Petrosyan said.

Asked about his opinion on the fact that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan continued the rally after the blast Levon Ter-Petrosyan said ‘Ask him’.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, a tragedy occurred during the Armenian Republican Party rally and concert held at capital Yerevan city Republic Square on Friday. Hundreds of balloons filled with gas exploded and started to burn. Subsequently, the balloons’ melted rubber fell on the event participants. Those near the stage were affected the most, and a total of 154 people were injured.

Armenian National Congress (ANC) is an opposition bloc founded in 2008 after presidential elections. During the August 1, 2008, rally in Yerevan the first President of Armenia and ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan announced formation of the bloc. ANC comprises 18 parties and political forces.

ANC proportional list includes 119 names. It has also nominated MP candidates with the majority election system.
