IJEVAN. – A 26-year-old Aren Sarukhanyan having raped and beaten 83-year-old woman in October 2011 in Armenia’s Tavush Region was sentenced to 5 year and 5 months imprisonment due to expedited trial. However, he appealed to the Court of Appeals and, according to his lawyer, the First Instance Court will cast a new verdict.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am has earlier informed, Sarukhanyan was sentenced to 5.5 years in jail. He has confessed the guilt, at the same time claiming the punishment is too strict and appealed hoping to get shorter punishment.
