YEREVAN.- The principle of territorial integrity is not the only principle of the international law, there is also the right of nations to self-determination, German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morell said on Wednesday.

He believes the balance of principles is needed for finding solution to the Karabakh conflict.

“Balance is needed, it is the only option. It is the approach we advise the sides,” he emphasized. Ambassador recalled Europe’s experience in copying with such conflicts accomponied with numerous victims and loss of territories.

“France and Germany have friendly relations now. We live in peace and do not argue about the territories. The same with Poland, we managed to create a new quality of political relations in Europe,” he told reporters.

The diplomat stressed that finding a balance is a difficult but possible task. “It is necessary to build the future,” he said pointing out the work of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Morell is confident that settlement of the conflict depends on the willingness of the sides, while “we will contribute to creation of favorable conditions.”
