YEREVAN. – Armenia’s ruling party, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), will convene a snap session by the end of the year and will officially nominate the incumbent Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan as the 2013 presidential elections candidate, RPA spokesperson Edward Sharmazanov told the journalists on Thursday after the party executive session.

As for rumors that Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader Gagik Tsarukyan and Sargsyan meet confidentially and that the president has given Tsarukyan time for thinking, Sharmazanov said they are not true. According to him, the PAP’s opinion on presidential elections is their own issue, and as they claimed they will publish it once it is known. Also Sharmazanov rejected the opinion that a campaign is launched against the PAP officials who claim to have chosen democracy, as that is against the RPA’s principles.

To note, the PM Tigran Sargsyan was absent at the session, and Sharmazanov said that he has good reasons.
