YEREVAN. – The governments of Armenia and Italy signed a cooperation agreement on the defense sector. The document was signed Wednesday, in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, by Armenian and Italian defense ministers, Seyran Ohanyan and Admiral Giampaolo di Paola.   

Ohanyan informed that the agreement specifies cooperation in the domains of military education, peacekeeping, and military medicine. “Armenia will study Italy’s track-record in military industry and the possibilities of cooperation in this direction,” he noted.      

Armenia’s Defense Minister stated that this is his Italian colleague’s first visit to the country, the negotiations were successful, and it was confirmed that the bilateral cooperation has developed in the past ten years. The parties also agreed to cooperate in military justice, as Armenia’s Military Police could collaborate with Italy’s Carabinieri (national military police).      

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Italy’s Defense Minister has arrived in Armenia on a three-day visit and, along the lines of his stay, Giampaolo di Paola was received by President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday.
