YEREVAN. – Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan received United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Taleb Rifai, who had arrived in Armenia to attend an international conference on tourism.

Rifai expressed a satisfaction by the conference, and noted that he is impressed by the progress Armenia has achieved in the tourism sector. In addition, he underscored the signing of the Yerevan Declaration, that is, of the document on intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity, the Armenian Government pres service informs.      

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for developing Armenia’s tourism industry. The PM noted that tourism development is a priority of the country’s government. Also, they highlighted the need to develop Armenia’s mass tourism, use the potential of domestic tourism, promote investments in hotel construction, establish an affordable hotel network, study the international track-record in tourism, and establish ties with the leading countries of this industry.  

The UNWTO Secretary-General expressed a readiness to assist Armenia in addressing the aforesaid matters.
