YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, who is in Mexico on an official visit, on Tuesday met with Francisco Arroyo Vieyra, First Vice President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies.  

Vieyra noted that the parliament of Mexico wishes to contribute to the development of Armenian-Mexican ties, Armenian MFA press service informs.

In his turn, Nalbandian stressed that the previous Mexican parliament’s statement on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and which misrepresents the reality of this matter, has harmed bilateral relations and it flagrantly contradicts the international community’s stance on conflict settlement. As per the FM, such moves hamper the efforts to resolve the problem and jeopardize regional stability.  

Vice President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies stressed that the Chamber supports the precept of self-determination of peoples. Edward Nalbandian expressed a satisfaction in connection with the assurances that official Mexico City supports the OSCE Minsk Group’s proposals for, and the efforts being exerted toward, settling the Karabakh conflict. 

He expressed a hope that Mexico’s new parliament will take practical steps to develop ties with Armenia and, also, he informed about the forming, in Armenia’s National Assembly (NA), of a friendship group with the Mexican Senate and Chamber of Deputies. Francisco Arroyo Vieyra stated that the Chamber of Deputies likewise will undertake the formation of a friendship group with NA. 

In Mexico City, Armenia’s FM also got together with representatives from the local Armenian community.

The Mexican media widely covered Edward Nalbandian’s visit to the country. Also, the Mexican press reflected on the situation following the erecting, in the Mexican capital city, of the monuments of the former Azerbaijani president and of “Khojaly” describing this situation as a blow to the dignity of the people of Mexico. The Mexican MFA informed Armenia’s FM that, as a result of severe public discontent, the Mexico City Municipality has decided to set up  a special commission to decide the fate of these Azerbaijani monuments.
