All the passengers, who were stranded in the two cable cars of the “TaTever” (“Wings of Tatev”) cableway in Armenia’s Syunik Region, have been evacuated.

To note, as a result of a lightning that struck the region’s Halidzor village—where the cable-car system is located—on Sunday at 3:41pm, the “TaTever” security system had automatically stopped the cableway’s operation.    

In the case of adverse weather conditions, the cable-car system’s operation is shut down automatically and, subsequently, all operations are resumed automatically, the “TaTever” management told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

The two cable cars were eighteen meters above ground when the system had automatically shut down, and the “TaTever” workers and the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescuers evacuated the 41 stranded passengers in an organized fashion. All passengers were provided with temporary shelter and food, and police officers and ambulance staff were on hand as well.     

As per the “TaTever” management, this incident has demonstrated that the cableway’s security systems and the training of its staff fully comply with the highest international standards.
