LAS VEGAS. - The Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas has declared a contest for the best name of a mammoth. The event turned to be indeed a surprise for the museum, as votes for the name offered by an Armenia boy were received most votes from Syria.

A 10-year-old American-Armenian Hagop Maknissian offered the name Christopher Columbian Mammoth for the skeleton and appeared in the final. Mother of the small Armenian boy asked her relatives from Syria to vote for the name via Facebook, Las Vegas Review Journal informs.

The campaign worked and Hagop received more than 75 votes from Syria.

"This is definitely the last thing we expected when we started the contest," museum curator Stacy Irvin said.
