A record number of women have been elected to the 113th U.S. Congress. Twenty women will work in the Senate and at least 81 in the House of Representatives.

Tammy Baldwin is the first openly gay politician elected to the Senate. Earlier she was the first openly gay politician elected to the House. Baldwin elected from Wisconsin is a strong supporter for solution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She also opposed sanctions against Iran, Interfax reported.

In several states women are elected for the first time, including Massachusetts, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
